Introducing Git Snapshots for Cursor Origin and GitHub

Today we're launching early access to Git Snapshots, our solution for fast repository checkouts that scale out. It prepares a repository and working tree once, packages them as a snapshot, and reuses that snapshot across Namespace Linux and macOS runners. A runner downloads and extracts the snapshot instead of fetching Git history and checking out every file itself.
This is now available on Cursor Origin, through Namespace runners for Buildkite, and on GitHub, through Namespace runners for GitHub Actions or Buildkite.
How it works on Cursor Origin
Cursor Origin does not have its own runners yet. What it does have is Buildkite. Open a pull request on an Origin repository, Buildkite picks up the pipeline, and the jobs execute on Namespace runners. The checks report back on the pull request.
There are four steps:
- Install the Namespace app on Cursor, so Namespace has access to your Origin repositories.
- Connect Buildkite to Cursor.
- Point your Buildkite jobs at Namespace runners.
- Enable Git Snapshots.
That is the whole setup.
How it works on GitHub
Getting started on GitHub Actions is simple. Use namespace-actions/code-checkout@main instead of actions/checkout on a Namespace runner:
jobs:
test:
runs-on: nscloud-ubuntu-26.04-amd64-8x16
steps:
- name: Check out repository
uses: namespace-actions/code-checkout@main
- name: Run tests
run: go test ./...Alternatively, you can use Git Snapshots through our Buildkite integration.
What customers are seeing
With help of early testers, like SpaceXAI, we were able to tune snapshots performance across different repository sizes and workload patterns. Across customers in early access, Git checkouts are up to 6.5x faster than standard checkouts.
What's next
If you are using either GitHub or Cursor Origin, you can now accelerate your CI substantially with Namespace Git Snapshots. On the Cursor Origin side of things, this is one part of a longer partnership with SpaceXAI. We already give cloud agents a real computer to work on, and there is more to come.
Git Snapshots are in early access and are not yet self-serve. Reach out to enable them for your workspace. We are looking for feedback as we expand access.
